Our Work In King’s Lynn & West Norfolk

ONE CHURCH IN KING’S LYNN & WEST NOROLK

One of the most exciting things happening across King’s Lynn is a growing willingness among churches of different traditions to think beyond their individual congregations and ask:
What could we do together to bring about the Kingdom of God for West Norfolk, that none of us could do alone?
Through our close involvement with Churches Together in King’s Lynn, we help strengthen relationships between churches, share opportunities and encourage collaborative action.
That can look like shared worship and prayer; churches responding together to practical needs; sharing volunteers, knowledge and resources; developing work with schools, children and families; or simply creating the relationships that make future collaboration possible.
The aim is not for every church to do the same thing, but to recognise that we each have something to bring, and our collective contribution to the life of the borough is far greater when we know and support one another.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: STARTING WITH WHAT’S STRONG

Together Norfolk is helping local churches in King’s Lynn to champion an asset-based approach to community development through a new programme funded through the national initiative ‘Pride in Place’ – beginning not simply with needs and problems, but with the strengths already present within communities.
We are working with churches and local partners to help build stronger community connections across the estates in King’s Lynn, with a particular focus on local
neighbourhoods including North Lynn, South Lynn, Fairstead & Gaywood.

This means listening to residents, finding and connecting local people who make things happen, mapping community assets, strengthening relationships between organisations, creating spaces where people can meet and develop ideas together, building local capacity,
and supporting residents and organisations to turn their own ideas into action. The hope is not simply to deliver more activity to communities but to be part of helping build communities in which more people have the relationships, confidence and opportunity to shape what happens with and for one another.

CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE & FAMILIES

Collaborative children, young people and families work is a key element of what we are currently doing in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.
Through the development of the Homegrown network, we are helping churches think together about how they can support families from early childhood through the teenage years – sharing learning, strengthening existing activities and exploring where collaboration could make a greater difference.
This includes developing connections between churches, schools, youth organisations, and other local partners.

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS ACROSS THE TOWN

Some of Together Norfolk’s most important work happens behind the scenes.
We participate in strategic partnerships across King’s Lynn & West Norfolk so that the experience, knowledge and contribution of churches, charities and grassroots community organisations can be part of wider conversations about our area.
At the same time, we help translate those wider conversations back into opportunities for local churches and communities.
This role helps connect grassroots relationships with strategic decision-making, ensuring that local voices are heard and that churches and community organisations can contribute meaningfully to the future of the places they serve.

GATHERING, WORSHIP & RELATIONSHIPS

Collaboration grows from relationship, which is often fostered through shared prayer and fellowship together.
That is why shared gatherings remain an important part of what we do together in West Norfolk.
Through Churches Together events and partnerships across the town, Christians have opportunities to pray, worship, learn and spend time together.
Gatherings such as Worship United, church leaders’ meetings, shared events, training and collaborative projects help us move beyond simply knowing about one another towards genuinely knowing and trusting one another.
And from those relationships, new possibilities continue to emerge.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?

There is a lot happening across the churches – and it changes every month.
The Churches Together in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk newsletter is the easiest way to discover current events, opportunities, training, volunteering, shared worship and collaborative activity across the town.
